Halloween 2019 – HEART HORROR ESCAPE GAME

2019.11.01

イベント

A long long time ago, there was a very cool, very handsome Prince…it wasn’t me!

This year’s Halloween was the biggest and the best we’ve had so far!

It took a lot of planning and hard work, but everyone did their best to make an educational, scary experience for everyone! There were 3 versions of the Escape game starting from the Tots version, Kids version, and Adults version. All having differences here and there to match with everyone’s English levels.

Thank you all for participating, for wearing some pretty awesome costumes, and for showing us why doing these events is important! Everyone’s comments, reactions, and hard work let me know that you enjoyed the Escape Game.

Let’s take a walk through the Horror Escape Game!

First, we started with a scary story about a Prince long ago who was turned down by the girl he loved. Brokenhearted, he left his kingdom behind, and traveled for a very long time. When he realized it, he was lost in a maze. The pieces of his heart were lost throughout the maze, and he was trapped there forever…

Our goal for the escape game was to find the pieces of his heart and return them.

We then asked everyone, “What makes a good heart?”

The kids all answered in different ways:

  • Pink and smooth (haha)
  • shaped like this ♡
  • kindness
  • honest and more

What impressed me was that Kindness was the most common characteristic to be said first. This reminded me of a quote I heard recently.

“I don’t want to be a part of a world where being kind is a weakness.” ~Keanu Reeves

We then talked about the 6 pieces of heart that they had to find within the maze: Kindness, Courage, Confidence, Love, Patience, and Hope.

After that, everyone got their lanterns, and we headed into the dark, creepy maze, hoping to find a way out.

We started the first room with some concentration games like Kendama and Operation. After that, they had to balance a monkey with the proper numbers and weights. The kids were fast at this! Then they had to complete an English sentence with a mixture of vocabulary. After they completed the sentence, they could get the password to move to Room 2 by checking under the sentence in the correct order to spell…ESCAPE.

Next, they all had to say the password to proceed to the next room…ESCAPE!! GAHHHH! Suddenly, HERO IN A DRESS jumped out and scared all the kids! This was the first of many to come!

In the next room, everyone had to try and complete a jigsaw puzzle using shapes. There were MANY pieces, so the pass rate for this puzzle was only around 25%. This is good though! It made everyone stretch their minds and work together to try and solve it!

After that, we had a word puzzle. There were 5 pieces of paper with letters on them. They had to put the paper together to get the answer! They would use light behind the papers all together to get their answer: SCARY or ESCAPE.

Then, we left it up to the students to figure out how to move forward. There were 2 different locks. One combination and one which needed a key. They found the numbers for the combination under a skull and the box had the 6 pieces of heart and a key! Using that key, they could open the entrance to the biggest part of the Escape Game, the tunnel! Kids seemed to enjoy it, and even the adult students crawled through the scary spiders to get to the final room!

In the final room, the long-passed prince was waiting for them. Protecting the empty broken heart. All the students, slowly walked towards the heart, when all of a sudden, GAHHHHHH! AJ came flying out from under the table! Many students gave a loud scream for this one! They then placed all the pieces of the heart back and cleared the escape game!

To receive their treats, everyone said “TRICK OR TREAT” only to be shocked again by a ghost protecting their treats! Everyone quickly grabbed their treats and rushed to the front of the school! I’m confident that no one got through this event without being spooked at some point! Everyone safely completed the Heart Horror Escape Game!

Yet again, I want to thank all of the teachers for working so hard to make this an experience everyone can remember! I hope you all had fun!

Prepare yourself for another scare next year…MUWAHAHAHAHA~
